OBJECTIVE

The objective of this collaborative Internet project is to have second graders (ages 6-7) create a collection of reading materials and art work for their peers around the world. The project supports the National Educational Technology (NETS) Standards for Teachers and Students. In addition, it ties in with different state standards in a variety of subject areas.

Teachers: apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students’ appropriate use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity.

Teachers: use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.

TECHNOLOGY PRODUCTIVITY TOOLS

Students use productivity tools to collaborate in constructing technology-enhanced models, preparing publications, and producing other creative works.

TECHNOLOGY COMMUNICATION TOOLS

Students use telecommunications to collaborate, publish, and interact with peers, experts, and other audiences

SUMMARY:

Classes will choose a creative activity from their apple unit to be showcased on "Apple Bytes"
In addition to the written work, participants are invited to submit 6 illustrations. These may be scanned images or computer graphics. Students are encouraged to communicate with participating classes via e-mail and/or videoconferencing. Teachers will list their state learning or NETS standards that correspond to the submitted work. They will also describe how student work was assessed.
Teachers may choose to create interactive activities on apples that will enrich the learning experiences of all involved.
At the conclusion of this project, students, teachers and visitors are invited to contribute to the assessment of "Apple Bytes."

Timeline: All materials are due by September 30, 2000. The site will be completed by October 15 and will remain posted to be used as a resource for teachers and students.

There will be a separate page for twenty-five participating classes.
