Mrs. Anderson's
First and Second Graders
Our class listened to the story LITTLE RABBIT'S LOOSE
TOOTH by Lucy Bate, but I didn't read the ending. The students had to
create their own endings. They had to tell what Little Rabbit found under her pillow
and what she did with it. Then we compared their endings to Lucy Bate's ending. We
also thought of words that told about feelings and emotions. We thought of what we
could do with our teeth after they come out that would match the different emotions.
(When my loose tooth comes out I think it would be ______ to ________.) This
story is make-believe. We talked about all the things that prove this is a
make-believe story. Finally, we thought of many good ways to get out a loose tooth!
While writing the students were encouraged to refer to brainstorming lists,
dictionaries, and the word wall for spelling and ideas. The students handed in their
writings, I proofread them and handed them back for corrections. The writings for
the project were chosen by these criteria:
a. originality of ideas
b. ability to state ideas clearly
Then we all went to the computer lab to type their writings. There are 9
students in the classroom. There were 3 adults to help them with typing. The
students worked on writing skills, gained knowledge of the computer, and practiced using
tools to help with their spelling. I also believe their self esteem will get a big
boost after seeing their finished project on the Internet and being able to share it with
family and friends. Here are the students' writings!

A good way to get a tooth out is you can pull it with a pliers. You can also tie a string
to your tooth and the other end to the door and slam the door. Just be very careful
because you will cry.
