Chocolate: Savor the Flavor by Elaine Landau

Activities:

After reading aloud the two books, we brainstormed favorite things made from chocolate. The children created a word web chart with the word “chocolate” in the center. They then added pictures of favorite chocolate items.

Next I recorded the names of the chocolate items on a chart and had them label their drawings. They wrote the “abbreviations” instead of the whole name since it is the beginning of the year. When they wrote their chocolate stories they referred to their webs and the chart for the spelling of words.

Next the student made mini books with the “kiss” pages on the project site. At the next visit to the computer lab, the children drew favorite chocolate things on Kid Pix and labeled them. Those who wished could also create a chocolate web.

Next we wrote a group story about our favorites. Each child supplied a sentence. The story and pictures are posted on our web pages.
