What a great
project idea, Mrs. Silverman and Mrs. McGowan! With a project
titled “Chocolate Stories,” how could we resist?
During
read-aloud time over the past few weeks, 4K has shared two
wonderful stories about two boys who couldn’t resist chocolate –
Chocolate Fever by Robert Kimmel Smith and The
Chocolate Touch by Patrick Skene Catling. These two boys
experienced adventures – and misadventures – based on their love
of chocolate and learned about what kinds of things are really
important for a happy, healthy life.
As Ms.
Kreul read aloud, students listened intently and wrote down
their personal reactions to the text including connections,
predictions, inferences, plot details and more. At the end of
each read-aloud time, students took a few minutes to share their
comments and thoughts with classmates. The combination of
writing and discussing comments about the two stories will help
students as they participate in literature circles in a few
weeks.
Groups
work together to compare and contrast aspects of the two
stories, such as the main characters personalities, the main
characters’ goals, and each story settings. We would like to
share two samples of 4K’s work with you.
We hope
you stop in at your library or book store, pick up Chocolate
Fever and The Chocolate Touch, and enjoy reading these two
terrific books soon!
