My name is Ms. Michelle Sowa, and this year will be a challenging adventure for me!  This year I will be teaching both 2nd grade and working as a Reading Recovery teacher.  How exciting!  I am delighted because I will be teaching my second grade class with a friend and colleague, Mrs. Susan Silverman.  I will teach language arts (reading, writing, listening, spelling, and handwriting) in the morning, and in the afternoon Mrs. Silverman will teach math, science, social studies, and technology. This will undoubtably be an incredible learning experience for our students!   In the afternoon, I am a Reading Recovery teacher, working one-on-one with first grade "at-risk" students providing intensive reading instruction.  I received training through New York University during the summer, and I will continue my training throughout the school year.  I also look forward to attending a national Reading Recovery conference in February.  I have been teaching in the Comsewogue School District for 6 years.  I have taught first grade and second grade.  But now...I teach them both!...THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!
