In this chapter the Baudelaire children go to Mr. Poe for help and he brushes them off and says basically that he cannot help them. I remember when I went to the financial aid for help in paying my tuition and they did nothing for me. It is not exactly the same but when you go to someone for help and they do nothing for you it is really discouraging.
