For Chapter Three, I was the literary illuminatory. I picked certain words that I thought would be important in this chapter. 1. Forlornly- (p.31). Adv. Without hope, desperate. When Violet recalls the time she attempted to cook toast, she looks “forlornly at the burnt toast.” Even though this word is used in sadness, it contrasts the happy memory that Klaus and Violet remember. 2. Acquaintances- (p.34). N. a person or person whom one knows, but not intimately. This would be a good vocabulary word to describe the difference between who you know and you who are close friends with. Someone may have many acquaintances but not many close friends. 3. Venture- (p. 34). V. To undertake the risk of. This is a good vocabulary word to use. Violet thought Justice Strauss would not want to venture or go into the disgusting house of Count Olaf.
