Napoleon was born in 1769 in Corsica, an island in the Mediterranean Sea closer to Italy than France. He went to Military School in Paris, specializing in using cannons.

He was a member of King Louis XVI’s Army during the French revolution when the King was taken prisoner by the revolutionaries. Napoleon swore an oath of loyalty to the new revolutionary government.
