On July 5th, 1942, Anne and the Frank family moved to the "Secret Annex".  Mr Frank had spent over a year getting it ready for their arrival.  The entrance was hidden behind a bookcase.  Only a few trusted employees knew they were hiding there. 

When Anne went into hiding, she took her diary with her and wrote of her experiences in the "secret annex".  She named her diary "kitty".
