When Pete subtracts integers, he remembers the rule Leave, Change, Opposite, or LCO.  This means that you leave the first number's sign the same, change the second sign (subtraction to addition), and make the sign of the last number the opposite (negative to positive, or positive to negative).

When you have done this, you can solve the problem using the same rules you use to add integers.
