We read many books about Fall. Our favorite
book was Charlotte's Web by E.B. White. The students
learned about the life cycle of a spider while reading about
Charlotte. This inspired many students to research spiders
during independent study time. They used non-fiction books like
Outside and Inside Spiders to research more about spiders. Then
each child organized their facts using Kidspiration. As a final
product, they wrote a poem about spiders using the Important
Book format.
Here are some of the poems:
The important
thing about spiders is that spiders make silk most of their
life.
Fishing spiders hang over water catch insects!
The tarantula is one of the biggest spiders in the world.
Most spiders lay about 100 eggs.
But, the most important thing about spiders is spiders make silk most for
their life.

The important
thing about spiders is that spiders make webs to catch food.
Some spiders that build web traps stay on the webs' hub to catch
their food.
Spiders use silk to protect their eggs.
Spiders depend on their silk to keep them safe.
But, the important thing about spiders is that spiders make webs to catch
food.
