Snow Day
by Barbara Joose

When we started this project, I had no idea how difficult it would be. Having grown up in Kentucky, I assumed that everyone knew about snow. I soon found out that my little South Georgia children really couldn’t write about something that they had never seen. We read lots of books, we talked about snow, and thanks to some wonderful teachers, administrators, and community members, we had snow (shaved ice) delivered to our campus. Because of our warm temperatures (mid-70’s) we almost made mud angels instead of snow angels, but our whole school played in snow. What a wonderful experience for our children!

Snowman outside, standing there,

With a funny, funny face.

A carrot for a nose

And mouth made of coal

And he’s still standing there.

You see he’s made of snow.
