We read Jan
Bretts Gingerbread Baby. We painted a mural of a
gingerbread house. We colored, cut and pasted various candies on
the mural. The children created their own patterns of the candy.
The internet
project was done with the Kid Pix software where they learned
how to use the different tools. We created our gingerbread house
using this software. The children placed various pictures and
created illustrations of various houses for the gingerbread baby
in the story. They sang songs and read poems about the
gingerbread man. They also wrote their names on the
illustrations with the software.
They made a
gingerbread house with their parents at our holiday party in the
school cafeteria. We then went back to our classroom where the
children wrote about their experiences making the gingerbread
houses. The class also created a large gingerbread house, which
was donated to the Veterans Home on the campus of Stony Brook
University Hospital. The gift to the Veterans Home was
accompanied by a letter from the children, which was written and
colorfully illustrated by the class.
I
expect that we will continue to use Kid Pix with other projects
during the remainder of the school year.
