Using the story When Winter Comes by Nancy Van Laan, one of the reading groups in the Bee Room practiced reading fluency using this Kidspiration activity.

First the teacher read the story to the students. Always looking for patterns, they found the story was in a rhyming question and answer format. The students practiced reading the answer to each question until the words were familiar and the reading was smooth. Then the students used the Kidspiration activity to record their reading. The students worked in pairs with one partner doing the reading and the other partner operating the record and stop commands. They then checked the recording for smoothness and good voice.

They worked together to read all the things that the animals did when winter comes. They enjoyed listening to each other read on the computer.
