This year we have been learning about penguins. We have read many
fiction and non-fiction books about them.
Over the past few months we have also been reading There was an
Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly, There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A
Pie, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed A Bell and There Was
A Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow as read alouds.
We then decided to write our own story about penguins following the
There Was An Old lady format. We used Read Alouds, Shared Writing,
and Independent Writing for our Story. We thought about penguins,
enemies and how it would be nice if penguins didn't have enemies.
Here is our finished product. We
recorded it for you.
There was an old
lady who swallowed a penguin
What a problem, she swallowed a penguin
Yet she still grinned.
There was an old
lady who swallowed a shark
It wiggled and tickled and stayed in the dark.
She swallowed the shark to catch the penguin
What a problem, she swallowed the penguin
Yet she still grinned.
There wan an old
lady who swallowed a sea lion
It bit her inside and she was crying
She swallowed the sea lion to catch the shark
She swallowed the shark to catch the penguin
What a problem, she swallowed the penguin
Yet she still grinned.
There was an old
lady who swallowed a book
The book really shook as she swallowed the book
She was hooked on the book, a book about friends
She looked at the book and thought about
Friends till the end...And why she
Swallowed the
sea lion to catch the shark and Swallowed the shark to catch the
penguin What a problem, she swallowed the penguin. Yet she still
grinned.
There was an old
lady who coughed up the book
And on the pages
of the book were the
Penguin, the shark and the sea lion
And instead of enemies, they were all friends.
And she really
grinned!
