The Snowy Day

A Retelling of The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats

This was a collaborated effort between Ms. Budano, Kindergarten Teacher
 Ms. Conway, Library Media Teacher
Ms. Sullivan, Computer Teacher and
 The Children in Room 102

Our class listened to the story about The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. We decided to rewrite the story in our own words as a shared experience. In the story that we heard the main character was a boy named Peter; in our story the main character is a boy named Angel.

On Friday when Angel woke up in the morning he looked out the window. He saw a lot of snow coming down. He saw very deep snow on the ground. He also saw a lot of snow on the cars.

Angel had to get dressed for school. He put on jeans and a red shirt. He also put on a sweater. He put on socks and shoes. He put on his jacket, his hat, his scarf and his gloves. His mom drove him to school.

When his mom took him to school Angel saw snow on the grass and then he remembered that he forgot his book bag. The teacher talked about our homework and then we said the Pledge of Allegiance. We did Center Work and then we heard an announcement on the loud speaker. We were told that we had to go home early because there was a lot of snow on the ground and more snow was coming. Angel was happy to go home early because he wanted to play in the snow.

When Angel got home from school he prepared to go outside to play in the snow.  Angel decided to put on a snowsuit. He also took off his school shoes and put on warm boots.  He put on new gloves, a hat and a scarf. He went outside and he played.

He made a family of snowmen. He made one snowman to be the dad and one to be the mom. He made two small ones to be the children.

Angel saw other children outside playing.  He saw a girl named Jaslidia. She was a pretty girl and she wore jeans. She had on a pink coat and a white hat. She had on pink mittens and a pink scarf. She also had on pink boots.

Angel and Jaslidia were friends. They played together in the snow. They had a snowball fight and it was fun. When they were finished playing they went home to their families.

When Angel went home, he took off his wet clothes and put on dry clothes. He watched television while drinking hot chocolate. Angel found his books from the library and decided to read with his mom and dad. They read the story about The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. The End.
