So, what do ladybugs eat?  How do the mother ladybugs choose a good place to lay eggs?  I think my ladybugs WILL go out to the garden.  How do they know where to go?

From my Internet research, I learned:

  • Aphids are a ladybug's favorite food.
  • During hibernation, ladybugs feed on their stored fat.
  • A female beetle only lays eggs when she KNOWS aphids are present.
  • Both adults and larvae live on plants where aphids live:  roses, milkweed, oleander and broccoli.  I think we have some of these plants in the garden.  Butterflies like milkweed, too!
