Circle Extension Project
Reflection In creating this extension project, I was having a difficulty on deciding how I was going to do it. In the beginning, I was having a hard time understanding what the actual goals and objectives were for this project, along with even finding a decent definition. This became very frustrating, so I messaged the Professor. After relaxing, and reading the information she provided to me, I began to have a better understanding of what was expected of me. After reviewing through previous projects, and seeing examples of other ideas, I decided that the best way to execute this project would be through pictures. I created a collage using pictures that I thought were representations of certain events and themes that happened throughout the book. Once I got the idea in place, the actual project was not that difficult to complete. It was actually a lot of fun creating a collage that was based on the book. I found myself going back and reading different parts of the book over again and remembering different parts of the book that I forgot from the first time reading it. In creating this project, I have found myself looking further into the different meanings of the events of the book. I have also looked at the different events in a way that I probably would not have looked if I did not create this project. I have also discovered another way that I can ask my students for interpretation of different readings that they do. I will definitely be using the collage project in my own classes to test and check for understanding of my own students. This was fun and exciting to create, I am sure that my own students would feel the same way. Self Evaluation 1. Describe the process you went through in creating your project: This project was very frustrating to me at first. I had no idea what I was doing, or how I was going to do it. After I began to relax and take in all of the new information and formats required by this project, I was able to choose a method and complete the task. The creation part of the project was the best part of all. It was fun choosing the different pictures and arranging them into a collage. 2. In what way does your project reflect an important part of the book? My project reflects the theme of growth. The pictures that I chose from different events from the book are positive as well as negative events. The point of my collage was to show how these events good and bad impacted Willie in positive ways enabling him to escape the memories and life of his past and further his ability to grow, live, and flourish. Not all life experiences we encounter are good ones, however, in order to grow from these events we need to learn from them and embrace the good parts of life to overcome the bad parts. 3. How does the project show what you have learned from the book? Choosing pictures to symbolize the events of the book enables the creator of the project to really enhance and internalize the events that took place in the book. This abstract method of retelling the story through the use of pictures creates an individual meaning for me. This also allows others who have read the book to view my interpretations of the story in comparison to their own. A project like this would not be very difficult and almost impossible to create if the creator did not read, and thoroughly understand the book and its themes. Self Assessment Grading Rubric 4 3 2 1
