Eileen	50	New York	Q1: What do you think the purpose of this flag was? A1: The purpose of this flag was to give America a new flag representing the colonies. The year was 1776 of May and Betsy Ross did just that. She also convinced George Washington that a five pointed star would take less room to make. Before this we had snakes and trees on our flag, now we had red, white and blue. These colors will continue to fly forever in history. When we see our flag, we think of liberty, freedom and pride. Q2: How has this flag changed since then? A2: Our flag hasn't changed as far as color. We still have the red and white stripes. The only changed that has occurred over the years are the amount of stars. Since then we have fifty states that are all united in one country. Our flag still represents liberty, freedom and pride for all who live in the United States.

A2: The flag has changed because back then (in the colonial times) it represented a new assiduous new country, it still represents that today, but it had more meaning back then.

It gave the citizens a flag to rally around in order to show allegiance to our new country. Q2: How has this flag changed since then? A2: The flag has changed in only one way. The number of stars increase as the number of states of the union increase. At one time the stripes also increased with the number of states but that was discontinued and the 13 stripes representing the 13 colonies was used on our flag.
