We adopted a tree that we will observe throughout the year.  In our tree journal, we will identify it  by its leaf type, observe how the tree changes throughout the four seasons, learn about the life cycle of a tree, draw and paint it using different types of media, and write about it.   We made leaf prints with tempera and wrote cinquain poetry around the border.  After learning about pointillism and Seurat, we made fall trees.
