Imagine yourself on an October morning, walking near the river in St. Helens, a small town in western Oregon. The leaves are turning; the air is crisp. You smell wood smoke in the air. You are all alone, but suddenly you hear a deep, musical honking sound. You look up and see hundreds and hundreds of Canada Geese flying in a V-shaped formation. They are flying south along the Columbia River. You know autumn is here.

Since our 1-2 blended class has been studying birds this fall, we decided to learn more about the Canada Goose. Did you know that:

Canada Geese migrate by day or night.
They use landmarks and even stars to guide them.
Canada Geese usually build their nests on the ground near water.
They lay their eggs in March and the eggs hatch about one month later.
The mother goose sits on the eggs, and the father protects her.

Emmaleah's Aunt Sara came to our class and showed us how to draw a Canada Goose. Then we pretended that we became that goose! We hope you have fun getting to know us.
