    Hurricanes
There is a hurricane in town,
    Blowing down spooky houses
    And scarry trees.
Birds were nowhere to be found.

    The
    Hurricane   The trees were
    blowing,
It was raining hard. I should have a flashlight
    If the lights go out.
    I could use the flashlight

    Assessment
As part of the science curriculum we are
discussing signs of fall.  Fall is hurricane season.  During Hurricane Floyd the
class tracked his path up the coast of the USA using the Internet and weather reports on
TV. We wrote down poems from our observations.  In addition to this we wrote poems
based on fall colors. I assessed their poetry based on descriptive phrases that painted a
clear picture in the reader's mind.  Some children chose to rhyme their poems which
    demonstrates auditory discrimination. |
