The Fall Poem

In the fall it is cold.
The leaves have turned old.
The leaves fall off of the trees.
Outside there are buzzy bees.
The children wear long sleeves
And jump into piles of leaves.

In the fall, bears get fat.
Flying south, there goes a bat.

There are hives with busy bees.

Assessment

My students were asked to follow specific guidelines in creating their fall poetry. (For example: A couplet is 2 lines that rhyme; each line should have the same number of syllables) The grading rubric was as follows:

1 = used a fall topic
2 = used correct spelling and punctuation
3 = followed the guidelines
4 = incorporated especially creative ideas and/or expressive language
