Miss Leger's Multiage 1-2 Classroom
Captain Isaac Paine School
Foster, Rhode Island

The students in Miss Leger's and Mrs. Krikstone's class have enjoyed learning about owls, especially the Great Horned Owl. They read stories about owls, researched information in books and magazines, browsed owl websites, dissected owl pellets, wrote poems, stories and reports, made pencil drawings of owls in art, and did crayon resist scenes of owl habitats.

Owl at Night

Owl, owl in the night
never see you in daylight.
You fly around
and catch a mouse.
Then fly back
to your hollow house.

Emma

Owl, Owl

Owl, Owl in the night,
Owl, Owl in the moonlight.

OwOwl, Owl I wish I could see you,
Owl, Owl where are you going to?
Owl, Owl in the night sky,
Owl, Owl you are flying s

Owl, Owl fly back to the tree,
Owl, Owl feed your babies three.
Owl, Owl sleep tight,
Owl, Owl it's the morning light.

Owl

Owl, Owl in the night,
Oh how bright you are in the light of day.
Come down so I can pet you on my arm.
And my brother can pet you, too.
Let us pet you until night.
Then you can go away to eat insects and mice.
And then in the morning, you can go back to sleep
And fly at night again.

Owls, owls everywhere
You are everywhere I look
In a tree, in a book
Everywhere I look.
Owls, owls everywhere,
Everywhere I look.

Owl Pellets

We looked inside of an owl pellet. It was wet and felt like slime. We found lots of bones in it, and we found hair in it, too. Owls spit the bones and hair out with the pellet. Owls eat mice and rats. We weren't sure what animal our owl ate.

Owl Pellets

We dissected an owl pellet. We got our owl pellets from a science company so they didn't have any germs. If you find an owl pellet in the woods it could have germs in it. We discovered that an owl pellet is made of fur, bones and feathers, all the things that the owl couldn't digest. We found teeth, jaws and other stuff. We put the bones together to make a skeleton. It was FUN!
