Our class researched the Elf Owl. We
found pictures on several sites.

your cerealspoon. People have destroyed the Elf Owl's homes by making the
soil saltier. They eat bugs and spiders and they drink bug juice. Elf Owls can kill and eat scorpions. The eggs of an Elf Owl are about the size of a jelly bean. Aileen Elf Owls live in the woodpecker holes left behind in
Saguaro Cactus. Sometimes Elf Owls eat small birds. They are brown. They even hunt at night. The Elf Owl has white eyebrows. It has a soft whistle. Elf Owls live in the Sonoran Desert, but they lay eggs in
California,and they can nest in Texas in boxes. Elf Owls hide from their predators like coyote. The Saguaro Cactus is like a hotel for Elf Owls. The Elf Owl has yellow eyes. The Elf Owl's homes are being destroyed by people
planting crops. They drink from bugs. The Elf Owl eats many things. Elf Owls are good catchers. They can catch flying moths. Elf Owls gobble up all kinds of insects, and even small
lizards. They have brown wings and a light brown beak. One of the most interesting things we learned was how
adaptable the Elf Owl is. It normally resides in the cactus mentioned by one of the
students, or in mesquite trees. However, it has also nested in telephone poles, fence
poles yucca stalks, and dead tree limbs. In fact, in some areas, their numbers are
decreasing because people are putting the utilities underground! |
