Ms. Wunsch’s Class completed the following unit on birds using strategies and techniques centered around the framework of the Early Literacy Collaborative. I introduced a variety of basic bird facts by doing a shared reading using an informational poster and by reading various parts of a non-fiction book, What is a Bird? by Bobbie Kalman. After this brief introduction, I put a variety of bird fact cards in a brown paper bag. Students had to select one card from the bag and research that bird using fact cards, books, posters, and websites. Students became experts on their bird through a variety of activities and as a culminating activity they taught their classmates what they had learned. Take a look at our great work!
