Where Once There Was a Wood

In class we have been studying Earth Day. As we read the book Where Once There Was a Wood by Denise Fleming it reminded us of our own little town which is quickly being taken over by housing developments. This project arose from the personal connection we made to the book.

We went on a nature walk near our school. I took pictures of the countryside as we went along. Many of those pictures were used in our project. I did have to supplement the photos with others that I had taken around town. I let the students each choose a photo.

When they came to the computer they called up their photo in Kid Pix Studio Deluxe 3 and inserted a caption that started "Where once..." I helped each child record their voice reading the words. I put their Kid Pix projects together with a title and ending page that I had created and made the slide show which I then exported as a Quick Time movie. The project can now be shared via email and our class website with parents and others. It's show time!
