We very much enjoyed our recent unit on bats. We read stories about them, did research, hands on activities, and had an inschool field trip. Melissa from Sweetbriar Nature Center taught us about mammals and bats. We'd like to share some of the letters we wrote to her as well as some of our cinquain poems. | |
Dear Melissa, I liked when you came. It was very interesting. I liked the bat house you brought in. I did not know bats were our friends. I will try to make a bat house of my own. Your friend, |
Dear Melissa, You taught me how a fruit bat poops. Since the fruit bat eats pits in the fruit they go to the bathroom and poops. The poop has pits in it then it makes more plants. I like when I felt the bunny. You should not change a thing with your program. Your friend, |
Dear Melissa, I enjoyed your visit to our class because I learned all about bats. I wish you can come to our class every day so I can learn more about bats. I learned that a bumblebee bat is the size of a jelly bean. I also learned that there are different kinds of bats. Your friend, |
Dear Melissa, I think the program was great. I learned that bats get rid of insects. I liked the part when we got to pet the bunny. Your friend, |
Dear Melissa, I had a great time when you came to visit our class. I would love you to come back to our class. I really liked the bunny you brought in. What is the bunny's name? I was amazed that you had an alligator at the Environmental center. I learned about mammals and bats from you. I liked that game that the kids in my class did to show what echolocation means. I had a great time with you. From, |
Dear Melissa, I think the program is just fine the way it is. I learned that people are warm blooded and that we are all mammals. I enjoyed when I touched the bunny and the bunny is warm blooded too. From,
Dear Melissa, I had fun learning about bats. I liked the stuffed flying fox bat. My favorite part was when you brought out the rabbit. It really was cute. I wish I had one like yours. The bat was really cool. The rabbit was like a pillow. It was so soft. I think your program is very good. Your friend, |
Dear Melissa, I enjoyed having you here in our classroom. Can you come again? I learned that insect eating bats and fruit bats don't hurt us. I enjoyed your rabbit because you and your rabbit are so gentle and sweet. Love your friend, |
Dear Melissa, I never knew that we are the scariest mammals on earth. Thank you for telling me that. I enjoyed playing bat and moth. I think the program was great. I don't think you should change anything. Sincerely, |
Dear Melissa, I think your program about bats was fun because you brought a real rabbit that we could pet and feel his back bone. I learned what a bat house looks like. The program can be improved by bringing in pictures of different bats and by writing stories about them. Your friend, |
Dear Melissa, I learned that bats come in many different sizes. I enjoyed the program. I liked the part when you came around with the rabbit and the stuffed bat. I like the bumblebee bat. Your friend, |
Dear Melissa, I had a great time. I also learned that fox bats can see. I also learned that bumblebee bats weigh less then a dime. Your friend, |
Dear Melissa, I learned so many things from your visit. Bats are helpful to humans. I also learned how to make bat houses. The most interesting thing I learned was that when a flying fox bat poops it can help save the environment. Your friend, |
