Miss Banks's Second Grade Class
Exeter Elementary
Exeter, Missouri

Our class created circle stories about whales. We read a number of Laura Numeroff’s books, “If You Give a Pig a Pancake”, “If You Take a Mouse to the Movies” to get us familiar with a circle story and we also read “Ibis, the True Whale Story” and learned a lot of facts about whales. We worked collaboratively in groups of 4-5 to create our own whale circle stories, and then individually illustrated the story.

Here are our stories.

If You Give a Whale Some Fish
By: Nathan, Jonika, Lance, Taylor, Isabel

If you give a whale some fish, he’ll want some more. He’ll want some orange juice to go with it. Then he’ll get all sticky and he’ll want to take a bath. Then he’ll want a lot of bubbles and toys. Then he will get bored, and want to go outside with his friends. Then it will get cold outside, he’ll ask his mother for some money for the movie. Then he’ll ask for some extra money for some popcorn, and soda. After the movies he will want to go and read a book. Then his mom will give him a list to go to the grocery store. Then he’ll come home with the groceries, and give them to his mom. Then he’ll get hungry, and chances are he’ll ask for some fish and some orange juice to go with it.

If You Give a Whale a TV
by: Brittney, Michael, Colten, Kasey

If you give a whale a TV, he’ll want to watch a Spiderman movie. It will remind him of the sea. He’ll see starfish. It will remind him of the stars. At night he’ll dream about TV and the chances are he’ll want to watch Spiderman.

If You Give A Whale Krill
by: Tyler, Asia, Stevan, Angel

If you give a whale some krill he’ll want hot sauce to go with it. Then he would swim around with a burning mouth. Then he’d swim to the top of the surface where he’d blow the hot sauce out of his blowhole. Then he’d get hungry again and ask for more krill, and chances are if he asks for krill he’ll want hot sauce to go with it.
