Literary Illuminator Chapter 4: Abominably: (page 43) 1: in an offensive and hateful manner 2: in a terrible manner I chose this word because I think it captures the horrible way that Count Olaf treats the Baudeliare children. Skittered (page 54) – 1. To move rapidly along a surface, usually with frequent light contacts or changes of direction; skip or glide quickly: I chose this word because I liked the way it sounds when said out loud. It is an interesting word that I do not hear very often. Despicable (page 54) - 1. Fit or deserving to be despised; contemptible; mean; vile; worthless; as, a despicable man; despicable company; a despicable gift. I chose this word because it describes Count Olaf’s character and actions towards the children throughout the chapter. Enrage (page 51) - 1. Put into a rage; make violently angry The Baudeliare children are constantly trying to please Count Olaf, and this word helps describe that they are trying to avoid making him angry.
